Galina Plunkett
Galina was born in Tomsk, Russia. As a junior she reached the top 20 for Russia under the age of 14. She was selected to represent Team Russia as part of their juniors squad. She competed for Team Russia in numerous international tournaments including Spain and Washington, DC.
After junior’s she came to the United States to compete at the division 1 level on a full scholarship. Galina played for the University of Rhode Island competing at the number 1 level for her entire undergraduate career. She was the first ever Rhode Island tennis player to earn first team all-conference accolades more than once and the first freshman in the history of the school to earn firs team all conference honors. At Rhode Island she won the Flight 1 Singles Title at the New England Championship, Stony Brook Classic and NJIT invitational. After finishing her bachelor’s degree at Rhode Island she went on to graduate school at Temple University on a full scholarship to complete her final year of eligibility.
After her collegiate career Galina joined Warwick Country Club where she was the Tennis Director for the last four years. She successfully ran the juniors and adults programs at Warwick. Galina was also a Tennis Professional at Fore Court Racquet & Fitness Club in Cumberland, Rhode Island. When Galina is not on the tennis court you can find her hanging out with her husband, Shane, and her yorkie, George.
