Mark played tennis and soccer growing up in his native Sydney, Australia and started playing tennis seriously at the age of 12. At that time, he was coached by Charlie Hollis; coach of former World Number #1 Rod Laver. From 16-18 years of age, Mark was ranked #2 in Australia. He began playing junior and regular slams when he was 16 years old and was recruited by US Colleges when he was 18 years old while playing in the qualifiers at the US Open.
Ranking as one of the top 20 ITF junior players in the world, Mark made it to the semifinals of the Junior Grand Slam Australian Open and to the finals and semifinals of several Grade 1 and Grade 2 ITF Tournaments.
Mark played professional tennis for two (2) years before going to college. His career was highlighted by playing in four grand slams and reached a career ranking of 373 ATP for singles and 363 ATP for doubles.
Mark is one of the most decorated players in program history at Mississippi State University. He arrived in Mississippi in 1988 when the Bulldogs had not been nationally ranked since 1967. Mark helped vault Mississippi State to the national top 25 each year from 1988-91. He holds several records at Mississippi State, including the most single-season singles wins and ranking second in career wins in singles and doubles. He also achieved All-American and All-SEC status multiple times and was ranked nationally as high as 5th for doubles and 17th for singles.
Mark has family in Australia and in his free time, he enjoys playing golf.
