Phil Dent

Born in Sydney, Australia, Phil Dent had a remarkable tennis career reaching a career singles high of #12 in the world in 1977. He was the finalist of the Australian Open in 1974 losing to Jimmy Connors. In addition to singles success, Phil claimed 25 doubles titles during his 14- year career. He won the US Open Mixed (1976) and Australian Open (1975) Doubles Championships. He also helped lead Australia to victories in both the Davis Cup in 1977 and the World Team Cup in 1979. After retiring from his professional career, he became known as the Serve Doctor throughout the ATP and the WTA.


Phil has had a successful coaching career and has coached both Maria Sharapova and Michael Chang. Phil brings an unparalleled amount of playing and coaching experience to the Birch.


In his free time, you will see him chasing his 4 grandchildren around the Birch and coaching the oldest grandchild in the game of golf.
